Dave Catullo and Kurt Rogers made a splash in the “Town vs. Beach” article in the High Tide section of the January First Coast Magazine. In there, they talked about how cocktails differ at the beach and downtown. This time, we take a look at some creations that they enjoy on a personal level.
Frothy Beach Concoction
When asked what his favorite cocktail is, Catullo responded with, “Tequilla and Whiskey, but not together. Just the way they are.” He was only half joking, but when asked what his favorite drink to make was, that involved a little more detail. Here is the recipe to make a Pisco Sour; something to keep in mind the next time you visit the Flying Iguana in Neptune Beach.
- 4 Parts Pisco
- 2 Parts Lime Juice
- 1 Part Simple Syrup
- 1 Egg White
- Mix all ingredients in a shaker. Pour into a glass and then add drops of bitters on top.
When asked why this was his favorite drink to make, Catullo said it was because he enjoys drinks that use egg whites.
They give the drink a frothy texture and require a little bit more work to pull off.
Classic Downtown Favorite
Moving downtown, Kurt Rodgers of Black Sheep in 5 points says he enjoys a good Gin and Tonic personally, but one of his favorite drinks to make is a Cucumber Collins.
- 2 part cucumber gin
- 1 part Simple Syrup
- 1 part Lime Juice
- 1 part Lillet wine
- Muddled Cucumber
- Mix in a shaker and strain over grapefruit soda on the rocks. Add a few slices of cucumber.
