From an artesian well that served as a watering hole for carriage horses at the Villa Alexandria Estate and polo horses on their way to the field which is now Holly Lane, to the view from the Thrill Bridge that once gave adrenaline junkies a heart-skip as they raced over it, River Road in San Marco has a fascinating history behind every bend. Landon Park is a lovely stop, and was named for the parents of Julia Landon who was the teacher of the first school in what was then known as “South Jacksonville.” From vistas of the St. Johns River, to monumental live oaks and gorgeous gardens, River Road and all of historic San Marco honor through preservation the rich culture and beauty of Jacksonville.
