Go local. Two small words packed with big meaning. Every time you buy from a locally owned business, no matter how big or how small a purchase, you are giving back to your community. Small business owners drive our economy. When you choose to go local, on average 48 percent of that money spent stays on the First Coast, compared to only 13.6 percent of each purchase from a large chain. That is almost three times the return on your investment. Shopping locally has a direct impact on raising employment in our region, and indirectly leads to lifting our community in a variety of ways through its re-circulation. It is a gift to our region to support its small businesses.

We celebrate local every day here at First Coast Magazine, and this year we decided to make it easy for you to enjoy some of the most fabulous boutiques in our region in one place. Forget the mall. Celebrate the spirit of the season with craft beer and cider by Engine 15, live music and a fantastically curated shopping experience designed just for you to relax and enjoy while going local and giving back to your community.

Our Founding Partners and Their Good Works

Our partners St. Vincent’s HealthCare and Key Buick GMC are two organizations that give back to our community by supporting a number of charitable initiatives, year round. Here are a few happening this holiday season!

Key Buick GMC

During the holiday’s Key Buick GMC does a “Fill up the Truck” food drive to support B.E.A.M. (Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry). Employees and visitors fill the beds of pick up trucks in the showroom with dry and canned goods which are delivered to the organization, along with a financial charitable donation. The company also hosts a department competition between its employees to see who can collect the most gifts for Toys for Tots. Giving to our most vulnerable is a mission Key Buick GMC supports year round by giving to organizations like L’ARCHE Jacksonville and Daniel, the oldest child-serving agency in Florida.

St. Vincent’s HealthCare

In November, for over 20 years, St. Vincent’s HealthCare provides Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of families in need. Last year, they provided nearly 600 warm meals delivered by taxi driver volunteers to Meals on Wheels clients.

For youth, Read & Romp is celebrating its 10th year on December 3. Created by Dr. Sonya Domgues, this event is designed for children 8  and under to enjoy an afternoon of books, crafts and games. For our elders, on December 6, St. Vincent’s HealthCare will be hosting two Christmas parties for seniors through the Mobile Health Outreach Ministry.  Also, departments and associates of St. Vincent’s HealthCare adopt a family for Christmas in partnership with JP Hall and Community Connections. They gather gifts and items for those in need and bring hope during the holidays.
