The Florida Theatre opened in 1927 as Jacksonville’s largest movie theater. One of only four remaining high-style movie palaces built in Florida at that time, it is the city’s last remaining example of “fantasy architecture,” according to its website floridatheatre.com. Its elaborate interior features many aspects of the Mediterranean Revival style, including a Moorish courtyard at night, with glittering stars and grand balconies. The historic landmark underwent a major restoration in 1983.
