All humans need water to sustain physical health. Making up roughly 60 percent of the body, water regulates temperature and flushes out toxins internally.

Yet water used outside of the body can play an important factor in one’s mental health. Jill Johnson, owner of the Spa at World Golf Village since September 2013, understands the effect of water on both relaxation and overall wellness. After living in Colorado for a time, she yearned for the ocean and returned to her hometown on the First Coast. “Because I grew up on the water, I find it soothing and comforting. I love everything about it, even the color is beautiful, calm and relaxing,” Jill says.

Inside the spa, a trickling fountain gives the sensation one has found shelter from a summer rainstorm. The waterfall at the center of the circular relaxation room provides an aqua ambience that soothes. Jill wanted to bring that same relaxing atmosphere to their outdoor space with the addition of a sparkling new pool courtyard and floating sundeck. “People both visit and live in Florida for the beach and the water, so I wanted to give them a taste of that here and the best way to do that was to add the pool,” Jill explains. The area previously featured treatment cabanas with limited use and a Koi pond. “The cabanas were unique, but the pool allows guests to come for a one hour treatment and make it a whole day,” she adds. Clients can soak in the sun with one of their delicious mimosas in hand while lounging in the over-water sundeck after a treatment or lay under a shade sail while getting lost in a book. The spa also boasts a steam room, which is a perfect place to decompress and detox.

Jill also believes that allowing a little R&R is essential to overall health. She urges, “You never take time for yourself, and then you get here and realize how much you need this to ground you in order to get you back to where you need to be.”
